Lung Function Tests for Children

Lung function tests are performed to assess how well the lungs are working. For children with respiratory symptoms or diseases like asthma, cystic fibrosis, and bronchitis, lung function tests are especially important. These tests help to evaluate how much air the lungs can hold, how quickly air moves in and out of the lungs, and how well oxygen is being exchanged between the lungs and the bloodstream. Lung function tests are usually done with a machine called a spirometer, which measures lung capacity and airflow. These tests can provide important information for diagnosis and management of respiratory diseases in children.
