Disc disease: Myths and beliefs

PIVD (Posterior intervertebral disc prolapse) is a disorder where one or more discs in our back slip away due to excessive pressure on these, due to diseased discs, or due to other causes including infection, tumor, etc. It is easily treatable in most patients. Some sleepiness, giddiness, constipation, and weight gain are anticipated in most patients in the initial course of their treatment. If these become troublesome, inform your neurologist. Avoid lifting weights, bending forwards excessively, running, or prolonged standing. Ensure regular back strengthening exercises/isometric neck exercises as per the physiotherapist’s schedule. If you experience urinary retention or incontinence, or leg weakness, please inform your neurologist ASAP
