Migraine is a disorder of ours with no established cause. Your brain is sensitive to certain triggers which trigger the headaches. Usually, all tests are found normal in this disease, and it’s a clinical diagnosis. It is readily treated with migraine prophylactic drugs however certain facts must be remembered.
- Dehydration increases migrainous headaches and good hydration must be ensured to avoid headaches.
- Avoid oily and spicy foods, excess tea, coffee, and extremely hot or cold diets. Although specific triggers may vary from person to person, avoiding such triggering foods is a significant part of migraine management.
- Daily exercise is advised for migraines however excessive physical activity in extreme heat or cold, may worsen the headaches.
- Ensuring timely sleep of at least 6 to 8 hrs goes a long way in preventing headaches.
- Nearly all medications given to patients with migraine cause some sedation, weight changes, constipation, dry mouth, etc. Any troublesome adverse effect shall be promptly reported to the doctor.
- Expect improvement in the frequency of headaches after a few weeks of treatment initiation.
- Do not stop any medication without doctors’ advice.
- Always maintain a headache diary, so the doctor can know the exact response to treatment.
